Site News
Welcome to the site news! Here, I will post
news about this site, as well as news regarding my opinions
about stuff. The background on this page, as well
as other pages on this site, are also from various games
including Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Touhou.
05/18/2023 at 6:19 PM EST: Yes, the site was closed for a
few days. Everything is fine now. Anyway, I suppose I should
try to acknowledge the existence of the upcoming Touhou
game, Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost. I seriously
doubt Cirno is gonna be in it. She hasn't appeared since
Hidden Star in Four Seasons (unless you count the card
appearance in Unconnected Marketeers, which I don't). I will
definitely talk if Cirno appears at all in the game. But
given that most of my thoughts about Touhou revolve around
Cirno (who ZUN does not seem to really care about), don't be
surprised if I end up not saying much about this new game. I
mean for god's sake, the guy literally forgot what
Daiyousei's hair color was. He does not care about Cirno and
co at all. He's more focused on whatever Reimu and Marisa
are doing. I wonder if fans of Nazrin are happy right now,
though, since the mouse is getting her first playable
appearance here.
05/10/2023 at 8:45 AM EST: Every single YouTuber WILL
eventually fuck up and gain some kind of controversy about
them. It's happened before, it's gonna happen again.
Blindingly placing your trust in a YouTuber and then
claiming to be disappointed when controversy starts brewing
is an idiotic move. See, the thing with these people is that
the moment they start regularly (keyword is
"regularly") making content every day or every week or
something like that, they pretty much lose any credibility
they may have. Being a YouTuber in this day and age is NOT a
good idea, and if you've got integrity, then you would
simply just avoid trying to become a YouTuber. The point I'm
trying to make is that in this day and age, due to the way
YouTube handles content nowadays, basically all YouTubers
are sellouts the moment they start regularly uploading
videos, which is exactly what YouTube wants. Quantity over
quality. If you're working at a fast-food restaurant and you
want to become a YouTuber instead... I'm VERY sorry to say
this, but it's probably best that you don't. And DEFINITELY
don't become a TikTokker either.
04/27/2023 at 8:40 AM EST: Nothing prompted this, but I'd
like to share my thoughts on a topic that comes to my mind
from time to time. Linux gaming, Steam Deck, WINE/Proton,
etc... people keep saying that Linux usage is increasing
because of the Steam Deck and all this stuff... I'm sorry if
you see me as some kind of "debbie downer", but these are my
thoughts on the matter. While I think it's great that Linux
usage is increasing, I really don't know how many Steam Deck
users care that much about Linux itself. I wouldn't be
surprised if many of them didn't even know it ran Linux or
cared at all. Maybe those who have modded it and put another
Linux distro on it know it's running Arch, but I don't know
about the majority of people. I don't really know if I can
consider this an increase in Linux usage, since I don't
think a lot of the Steam Deck users were buying it to use
the operating system, pretty sure they were using it just so
they could play Steam games portably. Speaking of the games,
let's talk about WINE. Valve's fork of WINE is called
Proton. WINE is a compatibility layer that has been
developed for many decades now that makes Windows
applications compatible with Linux. While I think this could
be good in theory... I'm not liking how it's affecting
native Linux software development. I believe that native
software development for Linux is a very important thing. I
do think that Linux is still kinda lacking on the gaming
side of things since most developers don't have much of a
reason to develop a game for Linux at all, and WINE/Proton
kinda... I don't know... deviates from the point of Linux?
You know, back in the 1990's, part of the reason why OS/2
failed, in my opinion, was because it could run Win16
applications, so many developers didn't feel the need to
develop for OS/2 natively. I believe that a similar thing is
currently happening with WINE and Linux. I don't know about
you, but I think that if someone's a Linux user and most of
the applications they run are from WINE, then it just feels
kinda wrong to me. What Linux needs more of is native
software development, especially for games.
04/24/2023 at 10:10 AM EST: So... I got COVID. Like, a few
days ago I think. I haven't spent much time thinking about
this site or really anything at all due to this. I lost my
sense of smell, I had a sore throat, and I kept coughing.
I'm getting better but it still sucks that I had it.
04/20/2023 at 7:50 PM EST: Alright, listen up! TikTok is
KILLING KIDS! That's right, you heard me! KILLING KIDS!
TikTok's algorithm is designed to drive young people to
suicide! A little boy committed suicide after being
manipulated by TikTok's algorithm to do so! This boy was a
fan of stuff like Batman and basketball! And those were the
terms he searched for on the site, and what did he get? He
got a bunch of videos glorifying suicide! THIS IS NOT OKAY
WHATSOEVER! TikTok has a death count, and if that app
doesn't shut down anytime soon, it's just gonna keep getting
higher and higher!
04/19/2023 at 10:05 AM EST: Last night, I had found out that
someone who I live with had gotten COVID-19. Hopefully
nothing bad happens to me. Also, tomorrow is the 24th
anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre. Please
pay your respects to the 13 victims.
04/10/2023 at 5:30 PM EST: We're fucked. We're fucked. We're
totally, totally fucked. My generation is fucked, America is
fucked, and the world is utterly fucked. If the bill passes,
ShitTok will get banned (which is supposed to be a good
thing) but they now have this other application that was
made to circumvent a possible ban called "Lemon8" and then
VPN's are gonna get banned too. But if the bill doesn't
pass, ShitTok won't get banned (which is supposed to be a
bad thing) but now ByteDance will be starting a new monopoly
on social media applications with ShitTok and Lemon8 and
whatever future data-collecting services they may have in
store for the world. And in the world today, the usage of
TikTok is becoming normalized and everyone just freaking
conforms to it. Richard Stallman seems to be viewed as some
"crazy old man who won't stop talking about how software
should be free", but he's right about a lot of the things he
says. He's very worried about the way things are going in
the world with data collecting and whatnot, and he has tried
to suggest alternatives. But he (and people like me who are
trying to reduce our reliance on big tech) get ABSOLUTELY
SHAT ON by people who value convenience over anything else
and can't understand why anyone would want to do something
like switch operating systems or switch to software with
publicly-available source code. Yet some of those same
people complain about being spied on by Meta or Alphabet or
whoever. IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO MAKE A CHANGE IN
YOUR LIFE (WHICH MAY BE A LITTLE LESS CONVENIENT), YOU
NEED TO FORFEIT YOUR RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!
You know who else tried to warn us? Nathan Lineback. He
tried to warn us many times that things were going to be
this way and, as he said it himself, nobody ever listened to
anything he had to say.
03/23/2023 at 7:08 AM EST: I'm STILL waiting for Half-Life
3. I don't care about Counter-Strike 2.
03/18/2023 at 10:05 AM EST:
Nobody needs
smartphones, especially not to go to a damn waterpark. Also,
updated the Cirno page once more.
03/14/2023 at 10:40 AM EST:
Updated the Cirno page to add information
regarding Cirno's latest appearance in Hidden Star in Four
Seasons.
03/13/2023 at 6:39 AM EST: Just like Kugee said, DST
suuuuucks... They need to get rid of it so we can quit
changing clocks. Not every country has to deal with DST. Also,
I removed the message about this page being hard to read once
I had received something from someone saying the "All About
Cirno" page was harder to read.
03/07/2023 at 5:49 PM EST: ShitTok needs to go down! No if's,
and's, or but's!
02/25/2023 at 10:48 AM EST: A bit late on this, but I'm going
to put in my two cents regarding a recent subject. There is
not a big chance that AI will be regulated or even banned for
that matter. Governments have much bigger things to worry
about, including some political stuff I'm not even going to
bring up, than the issue with AI-generated works replacing the
ones made by humans. What I'm saying is: There may not be
anything done about this, and voice actors and artists alike
can do nothing other than just sitting and watching as their
jobs get replaced by the AI.
02/17/2023 at 9:45 AM EST: Do not expect YouTube to get much
better after this. Remember: With these types of companies,
they are out to please their investors first and foremost. You
are not the customer, you are the product.
02/13/2023 at 11:50 AM EST: There is a difference between
coding and programming. Do you know what the difference is? If
not, then please go look it up.
02/08/2023 at 6:55 AM EST: After having developed this website
slowly (on and off, due to motivation coming and going
repeatedly) since late 2022, I have finally released it to the
public. I don't exactly think this website is "finished", but
it's in a state now where I can say it is accessible. I hope
that people can visit this website on older computers and
older web browsers. Also, flatrute, if you're reading this,
welcome to the website! I don't know what happened to get you
to stop commenting on Razorback, but I'm sorry.
